THE UNION L.A. Contemporary Dance Company 2007 Dancers: 9 Music: Philip Glass Running Time: 20 minutes Premiere: The Diavolo Space The Union explores aspects of duality – male/female, conformity/individuality, order/chaos – which give rise to our illusions of separateness from one another and from the Source of our being. Enmeshed in our repetitive patterns and narrow identifications, we are not always attuned to the unity that underlies these seemingly opposite states. The piece seeks to express the idea that true connection, wholeness and fulfillment, both physically and spiritually, are attainable only when we are prepared and willing to embrace the unknown “other” and enter the union. "Terri Best's The Union, set to string quartet selections by Philip Glass, featured thrilling, in-your-face unison clusters and a soaring sense of promise…” -Victoria Looseleaf, Los Angeles Times < Back to Commissions |
