Recollected begins in silence, with a series of slow motion vignettes punctuated by blackouts. These are eventually revealed to be excerpts from within the dance itself. The effect is such that one has the sense that they are recalling the piece while watching it unfold in real time. “Re-collected” (as in "re-gathered") also refers to the way in which the dancers begin in unison, divide into duets and trios, break out into solos, then come together - first in canon, and finally, once again, in unison. |
